Grass fire burns 8 acres near Highway 24 in Lafayette
Firefighters on Wednesday morning doused an eight-acre grass fire north of Highway 24 in Lafayette, officials said.
The blaze began about 4 a.m. on a hillside west of Pleasant Hill Road and north of Deer Hill Road. Acalanes High School sits on the opposite side of Pleasant Hill Road.
Fire crews from numerous agencies had the blaze under control by about 5:45 a.m.
Flames had been visible from the highway. Firefighters were remaining on scene to prevent flare-ups.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Fire Marshal Robert Marshall of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
