Review: ‘Wild City’ is good, not great Ringo Lam
Watching writer-director Ringo Lam once again orchestrating mayhem on the violent streets of Hong Kong is a welcome sight indeed — and although “Wild City” might not be top-drawer Lam, that he has released his first feature film in 12 years is a cause for celebration.
Lam, whose last feature was the 2003 Jean-Claude Van Damme actioner “In Hell,” is the filmmaker who made “City on Fire,” the 1987 classic with Chow Yun-fat that Quentin Tarantino paid homage to (read: ripped off) when he made “Reservoir Dogs.” He’s also the director credited with the first bullet-eye view, now common today, in “Full Contact.
