Wildfire east of Glide closes North Umpqua Highway
GLIDE, Ore. (AP) — A wildfire burning about six miles east of Glide has closed Highway 138.
Oregon Department of Transportation said Tuesday that the North Umpqua Highway will remain closed overnight. Roadblocks set up at both ends of the highway will help traffic turnarounds. Motorists traveling between U.S. 97 and Interstate 5 are urged to use alternate routes.
The Douglas Forest Protective Association says crews responded around 4 p.m. Tuesday to two fires near mile 23 of Highway 138 East. The Cable Crossing Fire grew to 135 acres Tuesday night, and crews were working to stop the blaze from spreading.
