The selfish sleeping positions which will spell curtains for your relationship and why Leg Huggers are the worst of all

THERE’S nothing worse than sharing your bed with a duvet hog or someone who snores, but it turns out how you sleep with your other half could be killing your relationship. 

A new study has revealed the most selfish sleeping positions out there, and which ones are guaranteed to leave you single again. 

Experts at The Dozy Owl looked at the sleeping poses which frequently ended in divorce, and it turns out the Female Spoon is the biggest culprit. 

While everyone likes a good spoon now and then, it turns out 86 per cent of hose who slept like this ended up getting divorced. 

The position with the second-highest split rate is the Leg Hugger, which is more annoying than endearing. 

This is when you and your partner are sleeping separately, but you let your leg rest on theirs ever so slightly. 

Whether it’s the half-hearted attempt at some physical intimacy, or perhaps cold feet, 82 per cent of those asked said this was the typical sleeping position in their failed marriage.

In third place is Back-to-Back, aka the argument pose. 

You’re both mad at each other but no one wants to sleep on the sofa, so you turn your back to each other and scoot over to your side, in silent anger.

It’s no surprise then that 78 per cent of now separated couples admitted this is how they spent their marital nights. 

Whether it’s your partner, child, sibling or best friend, no one likes someone who hogs the bed. 

We’ve all slept with a starfish before, and find ourselves confined to a sliver on the mattress. 

The annoying Space Hog sleep position was ranked in fourth place , with 73 per cent of ex-couples saying this is how they slept. 

And in fifth place is the Soldiers, another pose which couples adopt when they’ve been fighting. 

You’re definitely not sharing any body heat in this rigid pose, with 71 per cent of former lovers claiming this snuggle-free position was how they ended their relationship.

Unsurprisingly the positions which least ended in divorce all involve intimacy and touching, with couples sleeping face to face,  cuddling, tangled up and nuzzling each other going the distance. 

According to expert Paula Barry, MD, she explained this is likely due to the ‘feel good hormone’, oxytocin, being released when people give and receive affection. 

The findings were based on a survey of 4,987 women and 4,786 men who are now divorced, who were asked about their sleeping positions with their former partner.
