Podcast: Reviewing Kyle Kuzma’s junior season
Was Kyle Kuzma better than Lakers fans gave him credit for?
Kyle Kuzma wasn’t the third star that Lakers wanted him to be in his third season in Los Angeles, but after taking a while to settle into his new role alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Kuzma eventually became the player the team needed him to be, at least on on the defensive end of the floor. In this week’s of “The 30,” part of the Silver Screen and Roll podcast network, our hosts Christian and Jas review Kuzma’s complicated season.
To kick things off, the guys look back at how Kuzma performed throughout the year and speculate on what contributed to his underwhelming play off of the bench. Then, Christian and Jas get into why they believe Kuzma was at his best when he was played starters minutes. In nine starts for the Lakers this past season, Kuzma averaged 20.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Following that, they look at where Kuz has improved his game since being drafted in 2018 and where he needs to grow if he wants to reach the next level in his career. To wrap things up, the guys get into how much the Lakers would have to pay to extend Kuzma long-term and give their predictions on if Kuz will be with L.A. two seasons from now.
