Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson Join Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’
Grammy-winning musicians Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson have joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” that’s set up at Apple.
William Belleau of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and Louis Cancelmi of “The Irishman” have also joined the cast, which includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins and Jillian Dion.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on David Grann’s novel and is set in 1920s Oklahoma depicting the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Isbell is making his acting debut in “Flower Moon” and will play Bill Smith, an adversary of DiCaprio’s character named Burkhart, and Simpson will play an infamous rodeo champion and bootlegger named Henry Grammer. Belleau will appear in the role of Henry Roan, an Osage rancher with close ties to the Burkhart family. And Cancelmi is Kelsie Morrison, a local hustler and friend of DiCaprio’s Burkhart.
Scorsese produces and directs “Killers of the Flower Moon” for Apple Studios from a screenplay by Eric Roth. Producing alongside Scorsese are Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas and Appian Way Productions.
Jason Isbell is the singer and songwriter known for the albums “Southeastern,” “Something More Than Free” and “The Nashville Sound,” as well as his most recent album from 2020 “Reunions.” He has a connection with movies when he wrote “Maybe It’s Time” that was sung by Bradley Cooper in the 2019 film “A Star Is Born.” Isbell is represented by Alexandra Sera and Andrew Colvin at WME & Traci Thomas at TT Management.

Sturgill Simpson most recently released his first bluegrass project, “Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1 – The Butcher Shoppe Sessions” and “Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 2 -The Cowboy Arms Sessions.” The Country and rock star has also appeared on film in “Queen and Slim” and Jim “The Dead Don’t Die,” for which he wrote and performed the theme song. Simpson is represented by Paradigm and TMWRK Management.
William Belleau is another Indigenous actor, adding to a cast already deep with Indigenous performers, including Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins and Jillian Dion. He’s appeared in films like “Blackway” and “Van Helsing” and on series “The Man in the High Castle” and “Supergirl.” Belleau is represented by Premiere Talent Management – Shannon Richardson and Melanie Hawthorne.
Louis Cancelmi is a stage and screen actor best known for roles in “Boardwalk Empire,” “Blue Bloods” and Scorsese’s “The Irishman.” He’ll soon be seen in, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” with Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield and is a frequent performer with New York’s Public Theater and has appeared with the company in “Coriolanus,” “Troilus and Cressida,” “The Tempest” and many other productions. Cancelmi is represented by Cyrena Esposito at Red Letter Entertainment and Elizabeth Weiderseim and Randi Goldstein at The Gersh Agency.
