Mum says dog could have cooked better roast than £17 ‘undercooked’ Toby Carvery
A mum hoping for a tasty Sunday roast was left fuming when she was ‘given a dog’s dinner’ by Toby Carvery.
Nicki White, 26, said she ‘honestly thinks her dog could have cooked better’ after ordering the takeaway meal when she was poorly.
The Kent local has vowed to never order from the chain again after paying £17 for one adult portion and one child portion to eat with her daughter.
She has described the food – delivered by JustEat from the branch in Ramsgate – as ‘undercooked, small and just unsatisfactory’.
She said: ‘Putting it simply, it was the worst roast I have ever eaten.
‘I would normally go to the restaurant, but because I wasn’t feeling well my daughter wanted a roast so I thought I would give it a go. Never again.’
The unimpressed mother added that Toby Carvery is normally one of her favourites, but the meal on September 12 was an ‘absolute rip off’.
Taking to Facebook to share pictures, she said: ‘If anyone’s thinking of getting a Toby Carvery delivered. Don’t do it! Absolute rip-off!
‘Undercooked veg, black cauliflower, *hardly any meat, gravy was like water, stuffing was wet and mushy.
‘I pre-ordered 2 hours before and was still late, a driver turned up to collect but wasn’t ready so he left and had to send another driver. Will never order a takeaway from them again.’
People on social media were outraged by the images, with one saying: ‘Good grief that looks ghastly’.
Others claimed they had complained to Toby Carvery following similar poor experiences.
One person said: ‘Yes we ordered today too and had a similar experience. They even forgot our pigs in blankets.’
Another added: ‘I’ve had quite a poor take away too before – so I didn’t bother again.’
Toby Carvery is investigating the issue and has offered Nicki a free meal as an apology.
A spokesperson said: ‘We pride ourselves on our delicious great value roast dinners, so we are very disappointed that one of our valued customers received a delivery meal that doesn’t reflect our high standards on this occasion.
‘We have raised this with our internal teams to investigate and we have reached out to the customer to apologise and invite her to have a meal on us.’
