Ole: Lingard is a Red through and through
Manchester United suffered a painful defeat at the hands of Young Boys in the Champions League earlier this week. Having taken an early lead through Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card with 35 minutes played through the game plan out of the window and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to get a grip of the situation.
After Young Boys equalised, substitute Jesse Lingard, who scored in our 4-1 win against Newcastle after coming off the bench, played an awful ball back in the direction of David de Gea and essentially assisted the Swiss sides equaliser.
Ahead of our Premier League game against West Ham this weekend, Solskjaer has defended the 28-year-old forward.
We see him as a Manchester United player in the future. Jesse has come back to us after a great spell at West Ham. He showed his qualities and got back into the England squad. We really want to see the best of him this season.
It had been expected that Lingard would make a move away from the club in the summer, following his successful stint on loan at David Moyes’ side, but he opted to stay in Manchester. With just one year remaining on his current deal, and reports that he’s rejected the latest contract offer from the club, Solskjaer has spoken about Lingard’s future.
He’s got one year left on his contract and the club is talking to him and his dad. We support him and we hope to keep him here with us. He’s a Red through and through. We see him as a Man United player in the future as well. Jesse has come back into us after a great spell at West Ham, he showed his qualities, he’s back in the England squad, he scores goals for England and we really want to see the best of Jesse this season.
