Hasbro Developing Shows & Movies For 30 Different Brands
Hasbro's interim CEO has announced the company's plans to create TV and film projects from more than 30 different brands, such as Transformers and G.I. Joe. Hasbro has been a major player in the toy business for decades, creating popular brands like My Little Pony, Clue, and more. The company's longtime CEO, Brian Goldner, died in early October, and the company will continue his plans of expanding the company in the entertainment and games industry.
The interim CEO, Rich Stoddart, spoke on a company call about the plans, particularly doing more with their production company Entertainment One, THR reports. On the same call, eOne CEO Darren Throop mentioned that the company was currently developing more than 30 Hasbro brands into potential movie and TV content, both live-action and animated.
Goldner pushed the pivot to expand Hasbro's reach by acquiring Entertainment One during his tenure. His push resulted in projects such as the My Little Pony: A New Generation series on Netflix and Peppa Pig. Stoddart added that the company is currently "well underway" in the search to find Goldner's permanent successor.
Toy-inspired content has been on the rise lately, with films like The Care Bears Movie and My Little Pony: The Movie paving the way. These days, Hollywood is working on films inspired by Polly Pocket, Barbie, American Girl Dolls, and more, getting the live-action treatment outside of the usual animated works. Hasbro's push to pursue 30 different ideas for new projects means there will likely be even more films in the works joining ongoing projects like a Monopoly-inspired movie or the previously upcoming Furby film.
