Lady Gaga Threatens Bloodshed In New House of Gucci Trailer
A new teaser trailer for House of Gucci arrives seeing Lady Gaga out for bloodshed as the power-hungry Patrizia Reggiani in the crime biopic. Based on 2001's The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, the story is set in 1995 and explores the events leading up to and the aftermath of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, head of the iconic Italian fashion house, at the hands of his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani. House of Gucci features an ensemble cast led by Lady Gaga and Adam Driver alongside Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek and Al Pacino.
Development on House of Gucci has languished in development hell for 15 years when Ridley Scott first signed on to helm the project with a script from Straight Outta Compton's Andrea Berloff and Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio rumored to star as Reggiani and Gucci. The film would go through multiple iterations in the years that followed, with Scott's daughter Jordan Scott attached to direct at one point with Penélope Cruz in talks to star and Wong Kar-Wai taking over with Margot Robbie eyed to star. Ridley Scott would ultimately come back to the project in 2019 with Roberto Bentivegna set to co-write with Becky Johnston and Gaga becoming the first star to join the cast.
With less than a month remaining until the film's arrival, a new teaser for House of Gucci (via Silverbird Film Distribution) has been unveiled. The video teases the addictive power that comes from being a part of the titular family and Lady Gaga's Patrizia dangerous hunger to acquire more power. Check out the teaser below:
Gaga's role as Patrizia Reggiani comes as an interesting one for the Oscar winner on the heels of her praised performance in Bradley Cooper's A Star is Born remake. Unlike the music drama, House of Gucci sees Gaga explore a more antagonistic character as seen in her early acting days on American Horror Story and Machete Kills. The new video for the film offers a nice tease of Gaga's portrayal of the the former Italian socialite infamously dubbed "Black Widow" following her involvement in the murder of her ex-husband.
House of Gucci also comes at a time in which director Ridley Scott is revisiting one of his lesser-explored-yet-well-received genres, having just gone back to historical epics for The Last Duel — also starring Adam Driver. Scott's time in the crime drama biopic genre has delivered hits including the Oscar-nominated American Gangster and Golden Globe-nominated All the Money in the World. Only time will tell if House of Gucci can achieve similar success when it hits theaters on November 24.
