Lightyear Poster Gives Close-Up Look At Real Space Ranger Suit
The first poster for Lightyear arrives offering a close-up look at the real Space Ranger suit of the titular Toy Story character in his origin story. Buzz Lightyear first made his franchise debut in Pixar's 1995 Oscar-nominated film with Tim Allen voicing the action figure who believed himself to be the real space-faring hero, only for Tom Hanks' Woody to have to open his eyes to the truth. Allen would carry the role through three sequels, a video game and a spin-off film that would led into the spin-off series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command with Patrick Warburton voicing the titular character.
Lightyear will offer the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who would inspire the line of toys featured in the Toy Story franchise, and his early days as a Space Ranger in the intergalactic Star Command. The animated spin-off will be led by Knives Out and Avengers: Endgame star Chris Evans in the titular role, becoming the fifth actor to take on the role of Buzz. Development on the film was first announced in late 2020 at the Disney Investor Day when Lightyear was set for a Summer 2022 release with Evans attached as the lead.

The first poster for Lightyear is an interesting treat for fans of the Toy Story character, offering a more detailed design for the titular hero's space suit while still retaining many of its original elements. One of the key designs audiences will recognize is the large red button on the chest, which resulted in one of the most iconic moments from the original Toy Story film that will likely be given a more serious approach in the spin-off. The image of Buzz soaring through space is certainly an exhilarating one but also comes as a tease of the potential storyline for the film.
As seen in the first Lightyear trailer, Buzz and a fellow Space Ranger are seen working with a robot to calculate the best possible path to slingshot around a planet and hit hyperspace. Based on the star lights surrounding his ship in the secondary image, this could be an element kept early in the film's story and an indication of what helps Buzz earn the title of hero. Only time will tell when the full trailer for Lightyear arrives and when the film hits theaters on June 17, 2022.
