I’m a mum-of-two and LOVED giving birth, contractions are only like period pains – I know people think I’m obnoxious

AS we’re sure all mums will agree, there’s lots of lovely things that happen during the course of your pregnancy – like the first time you hear your child’s heartbeat or feel them kick.

But for lots of mums-to-be, the prospect of actually giving birth is downright terrifying – especially as you near your due date.

However for mum-of-two Jenna Fearnley, labour was something she actively enjoyed.

In a personal essay for Mama Mia, Jenna said she “loved every second” of both of her labours and actually wishes she could do it again.

She explained: “Before you pass me off as a bragger or roll your eyes, I will say that I had unbearable pregnancies.

“I was extremely grateful to be pregnant, but I was sick every single moment for nine months straight – both times over.”

As well as being “constantly nauseous”, Jenna was diagnosed with pubic symphysis dysfunction – which causes severe pelvic pain and meant she struggled to walk.

So with that in mind, it’s hardly surprising Jenna was looking forward to the end of her pregnancies and chose to be induced.

She continued: “As I pushed, I felt this rush of adrenalin and immense pleasure gushing through my body. I felt guided by my body. I felt powerful standing up and owning the experience.

“Probably TMI, but I enjoyed the feeling of having their limbs and body come out of me and into the world.”

What’s more, the mum said she “barely broke a sweat” during her two labours and was soon walking around “as if she’d just done a gym class.”

She added: “For women who suffer through painful periods, perhaps it helps us in child labour. I felt like contractions felt similar to pain I had experienced before.

“Perhaps we have a higher threshold for ‘labour-like’ pain?”

Giving her top labour tips, Jenna said she avoided making a birthing plan as she didn’t want to have “great expectations” going into it.

On top of this, she avoided going overboard with parenting books as she worried that would only make her more nervous.

Instead, she placed her full trust in the doctors and midwives on the ward – even though they thought the first labour was going to take much longer than the two hours it eventually did.

“I was guided by my body – the pain allowed me to know when to push,” the mum explained. “I was proud that my body could take control without little thought or concern.”
