All the permutations that would see Spurs finish in top four on the final day

Tottenham Hotspur only need a point against Norwich in their final game of the season to seal Champions League qualification.

Arsenal needed all three points at St James’ Park yesterday to keep their destiny in their own hands, with respect to the race for fourth place.

Spurs had narrowed the deficit to just one point with their win in the North London Derby before beating Burnley on Sunday to go two points clear of the Gunners.

However, Mikel Arteta’s men fell to a 2-0 loss against the Magpies, thus leaving Tottenham on the brink of qualifying for the Champions League.

As things stand, Tottenham’s goal difference is 15 better than Arsenal’s, which means a draw would be enough to see Antonio Conte’s men seal fourth place, unless the Gunners beat Everton by 15 goals, which needless to say, is extremely unlikely.

The only way Arsenal can qualify for the Champions League is if they beat Everton at home while Spurs lose against Norwich in the final game of the season – which would be enough to see Arteta’s men finish a point above their fierce rivals.

For Spurs to qualify for the Champions League:

Spurs Web Opinion

If Arsenal had played out a draw yesterday, there would still have been some pressure on Spurs going into the final game of the season at Carrow Road as it would have been a must-win game for the Lilywhites.

However, now that Tottenham know a draw against Norwich will be enough to get fourth, the pressure is off them to an extent.

Besides, even if Spurs fall to an unlikely defeat to the Canaries, I do not expect Arsenal to get all three points against an Everton side, who are likely to need a result at the Emirates to avoid relegation.
