South Afghanistan Domestic Violence Results in One Death and Three Injuries

According to local sources, a family violence in Kandahar province, in southern Afghanistan, has resulted in the death of one man and the injury of three people including two women and a man.

Sources claim that a man allegedly shot his ex-wife in Kandahar province’s Ayno Mina city.

The motive for this shooting remains unknown as of now, but it is reported that this man’s ex-wife separated from him in a Taliban military court some time ago.

Local Taliban officials have yet to comment on the incident, and sources indicate that the perpetrator has managed to escape.

Family blood feuds, personal animosity, and domestic violence increased in recent months, leading to homicides, target killings, and honor killings.

In the province of Nimroz, a man massacred nine members of his family, including his wife, four children, and father-in-law, a month ago. Another man wounded two of his children while killing his wife, in Samangan province.

In Takhar, Afghanistan’s northeastern province, a 16-year-old girl committed suicide by shooting herself in the head, while a 14-year-old child murdered his father with an axe in Faryab province, both as a result of domestic violence.

Decades of conflict, in a poverty-stricken country such as Afghanistan, with the absence of rule of law and the exacerbation of political and social circumstances have rendered domestic violence a widespread practice.
