Report: Spurs enquired about £59.5m-valued centre-back earlier this summer
Tottenham were interested in signing Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus before he secured a move to Bayern Munich this summer, according to CalcioMercato.
Spurs contacted the Bianconeri regarding De Ligt after listening to Antonio Conte’s requests for an international-grade centre-back, with the Dutchman cropping up as a main target.
However, their interest was quickly ended after they learned of Juve’s €70 million (£59.5m) asking price and moved on to pursue other targets instead – namely the loan signing of Clement Lenglet.
The France international completed a season-long loan from Barcelona earlier this month with Tottenham reportedly holding a clause with an option to buy him permanently (BBC Sport).
Lenglet, 27, figures as one of six new signings made by Antonio Conte this summer alongside Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Djed Spence.
He made his Spurs debut in the 2-1 pre-season win at Rangers, coming on as a second-half substitute in place of Davinson Sanchez and featuring in left central defence.

De Ligt would have been a massive coup for Spurs if they decided to take the plunge on a move as he fit the bill in terms of what Conte was after.
Given Bayern had already showed plenty of interest in him, it would have been a challenging transfer to complete but there is still time for Spurs to sign a top-tier name they are after.
