Report reveals why Spurs have not permanently signed Cristian Romero yet
Tottenham have not announced the permanent signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta as the date to signal the end of his loan has not been reached yet, according to Football.London.
Although a specific date is not mentioned, the report explains Spurs will make a full announcement of the signing when the transition is officially made.
Romero joined Spurs last summer on an initial loan deal for the season, although the move came structured in a slightly complex way despite a five-year contract being agreed.
Spurs secured an option to buy the 24-year-old for £42.5 million, while an obligation was also inserted with a number of easily-achievable sporting objectives to make the deal permanent.
Antonio Conte previously revealed in February that the club would be completing a permanent transfer for the Argentina international (Daily Mail), who has emerged as a key piece in the Italian’s defence.
Romero made 30 appearances during his first season in North London (Transfermarkt), but saw the middle and end of his campaign disrupted with a hamstring and hip injury respectively.

The Romero deal seems fairly complicated in the way it has been structured. All the caveats in the move haven’t been reached yet which is preventing an official announcement, but either way, it is still comforting to know Spurs will have a top centre-back for years to come.
