An 18-year-old incoming college student was shot and killed by a professor at the university she was about to attend.

Freshman Anna Jones was killed when Richard Sigman, 47, allegedly shot into her parked vehicle in Carrollton, Georgia, on Saturday night, according to police.

Sigman, who was employed by the University of West Georgia, was seen arguing with another man at a pizzeria called Leopoldo’s in the Adamson Square area. Sigman reportedly threatened to shoot the other man, who notified security.

Security asked Sigman to leave, and he was last seen walking towards the parking garage.

According to police, Sigman then started firing into a parked car, striking and killing Jones. Her friends drove her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Sigman was charged with murder, three counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime. He is being held at Carroll County Jail.

He was intoxicated during the fight and shooting, 11 Alive reported.

‘UWG has terminated the employment of Richard Sigman and continues to work with the city of Carrollton Police Department, which leads this ongoing investigation,’ stated the University of West Georgia.

According to his LinkedIn page, Sigman was employed by the university’s Small Business Development Center since November 2012. He is currently listed as a lecturer in management and entrepreneurship.

‘On behalf of the university, we wish to convey our deepest condolences to Anna’s family and many friends,’ said UWG President Dr. Brendan Kelly. ‘We ask that you keep Anna’s family, friends, and all who have been touched by this tragedy in your thoughts during this tremendously difficult time.’

Jones was recent graduate of Mount Zion High School in the class of 2022. She was enrolled to attend the University of West Georgia in the fall.

‘Anna loved this school and this community and she will be missed dearly by many,’ Mount Zion High School stated on Facebook.

Friends of Jones’s family have organized a GoFundMe to cover her funeral expenses.

‘She was a beautiful, sweet soul and her smile would light up a room,’ wrote Jennifer Lepard, who organized the GoFundMe page.
