Domino’s renames branch Lucy’s in honour of Lioness who used to work there
A Domino’s branch has been temporarily renamed ‘Lucy’s’ to celebrate its ex-employee, Lioness Lucy Bronze, and her triumph at the Euro 2022 final at Wembley Stadium.
As the 2020 FIFA Best player of the year, she has had an illustrious career and is often hailed as one of the most respected footballers of her generation.
So, it is not a surprise the Headingley pizzeria wanted to honour the decorated full-back who worked there as a student at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Alongside the rebrand, Domino’s also had its delivery drivers sporting bronze helmets – rather than the white ones they can be normally seen in.
Ms Bronze scored the second goal in England’s semi-final against Sweden, which saw the Lionesses triumph 4-0.
The star also had a role in England’s winning goal, stealing the ball from a corner to create the chance for teammate Chloe Kelly.
Highlighting Ms Bronze’s journey from ‘pizza to pitch’, the rebrand will remain in place until this Friday.
But Domino’s better save the new shiny sign as the player has already set her sights on the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
‘It’s another trophy – and the best one by far,’ the Lioness said. ‘But there’s still one more we can get our hands on next year.’
It also looks like the footballer, who was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed and went on to live on Holy Island, in Belford and in Alnwick, will be awarded the Freedom of Northumberland.
County councillor Guy Renner-Thompson wrote on social media: ‘I have proposed Lucy Bronze be granted the Freedom of Northumberland.
‘This motion will be voted on at the September meeting of all councillors in the county.’
The motion reads: ‘Following the magnificent victory of the Lionesses in Euro 2022 we would like to propose the Freedom of Northumberland is bestowed on Lucy Bronze.’
