NYCHA admits knowing of ‘cloudy water’ at Riis Houses months before arsenic scare
NYCHA officials say they knew of of “cloudy water” at the East Village housing project on May 1. Over the coming five months, NYCHA logged 92 more complaints about discolored water at the complex, most after July 3. It took until Sept. 2 for the agency to announce the Riis Houses water supply contained elevated levels of arsenic, a dangerous toxin. But that finding proved incorrect, and NYCHA says the water is now safe.
