Man arrested in connection with summertime shooting at Redwood City park
REDWOOD CITY – A 32-year-old San Carlos man has been arrested in connection with a summertime shooting at a Redwood City park that resulted in lockdowns of a nearby Boys & Girls Club and an elementary school, according to police.
No one was hit in the Aug. 19 shooting, but multiple rounds struck the club, police said. Both the club and Hoover Elementary School were locked down following the attack.
An investigation resulted in the identification of the suspect, Redwood City police said in a statement. Detectives on Wednesday served a search warrant at his home and arrested him. He was found with a loaded, illegally possessed Glock handgun as well as more than three quarters of an ounce of methamphetamine, according to police.
In addition, more than $3,000 was seized as evidence of illegal drug sales, police said.
The suspect was booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of attempted murder, negligent discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance with a firearm and possession of methamphetamine for sale.
“A significant amount of time and effort by our officers was put into bringing this suspect to justice,” police said in the statement. “This investigation is a part of an ongoing effort by the Redwood City Police Department to enhance the safety of the cities’ parks for anyone who wants to spend time there and enjoy the peaceful activities of the area.”
