Defender signs first professional contract with Spurs – The club’s very own Pele
As first reported by the official Spurs website, 18-year-old Pele Arganese-McDermott has penned his first professional contract with the Lilywhites this week.
In an official statement on their website, Spurs said, “We are delighted to announce that Pele Arganese-McDermott has signed his first professional contract with the Club.”
“The centre-back joined our Academy in 2021 and went full-time as a scholar with our Under-18s during the summer of this year.”
This comes after the 18-year-old defender was offered a two-year scholarship at Spurs in November last year, eventually joining from Luton U15s, where he was said to be ‘highly thought of’ (Football Insider).
Arganese-McDermott usually lines up at centre-back with his height being a big asset, however, he can also slot into other roles as a useful utility man.
The teenager will seemingly spend the rest of the season in the Tottenham academy, which already boasts the likes of Harvey White, Maksim Paskotsi and on-loan pair Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett.

Snapping up teenagers from lower league clubs for very low fees has always been a tried-and-tested model for the likes of Chelsea. Tottenham seem to be putting more emphasis on doing the same these days in order to promote youngsters for the first team or to sell on.
