Journalist reveals hairline fracture is not as bad as it sounds for Spurs star
The Sun’s Tom Barclay has revealed that Ben Davies has been found to have a hairline fracture under his knee but added that the Spurs star’s injury is not serious.
Davies was an indispensable part of Antonio Conte’s back three last season and despite competition from Clement Lenglet this campaign, the Welshman has continued to be the Italian’s first choice at left centre-back.
It emerged that the defender had picked up a knee injury in Tottenham’s 2-0 loss at Sporting Lisbon a fortnight ago, with the Welshman missing the club’s 6-2 win over Leicester City last Saturday, and withdrawing from the Wales squad as a result (Athletic).
Football.London subsequently revealed that Davies is expected to be out of action for three weeks and that he is in a race against time to be fit for the North London derby on October 1.
Barclay has now shed more light on the former Swansea man’s injury, explaining that he has suffered a hairline fracture on the bone under his knee.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Ben Davies has a knee injury which he picked up, I think, in the game against Sporting because he went down injured and they sort of suggested it was in that game but he played the rest of it.
“I’m led to believe there’s a hairline fracture on the bone underneath his knee, which sounds pretty bad, but I don’t think it’s actually as serious as it sounds by any stretch.”

Losing Davies for the North London derby would be a blow as I am 100 per cent sure that the Welshman would get the not to start at the Emirates if he is fully fit.
However, should the 28-year-old not recover in time, it will be a good opportunity for Clement Lenglet to prove his mettle in a big match and stake a claim to be a regular in the starting eleven.
