How Julie Andrew Feels About New 'Princess Diaries' Movie & If She'd Appear In It
The new Princess Diaries movie might have to make do without Julie Andrews and her character Clarisse Renaldi.
The 87-year-old Sound of Music actress played Anne Hathaway‘s grandmother and the queen regent of Genovia in the first movie, which premiered in 2001. She reprised the role in a 2004 sequel.
However, Julie expressed hesitancies about signing on to return to Genovia for the third movie, which is reportedly in the works at Disney.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Julie said that she didn’t think it would work out.
“Yeah, I think we know it’s probably not going to be possible. There was talk about, very shortly after Two came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I’m that much older, and Annie, the princess, the queen, is so much older, and I’m not sure whether it would float or run,” she mused.
“In terms of us doing it, I very much doubt that now,” Julie added, though her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton proposed a new generation taking on the series.
It’s not official yet, but Anne is expected to reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis if the movie takes off.
This is not the first time Julie has addressed coming back to the franchise. Another star from the movies also talked about if they’d return.
