12/11/2022: Snow day Sunday
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
An approaching storm system will bring many of us our first substantial snowfall of the season! There's plenty of cold air in place ahead of the precipitation - so we expect it to fall as snow from start to finish.
By late morning or midday, steady snow showers will have spread across the entire region. The flakes will fall steadily throughout the afternoon and evening, not tapering off until after midnight. We could see up to 3/4 of an inch falling per hour during that time, leading to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Be safe out there!
By the time it's all said and done, we expect a widespread 4-6 inches of snow in the Capital District, Mohawk Valley, and Mid- Hudson. A few isolated locations in the Catskills could wind up with slightly higher totals - perhaps 7 or 8 inches.
Another swath of 4-6 inch totals could materialize in the higher terrain of eastern Berkshire County. Those highlighted in the light blue on the map above can expect 2-4 inches.
Behind this system, we'll get plenty of sun for the beginning and middle of the work week. But clear skies at night lend them selves to frigid temperatures - we'll begin Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings in the teens! Another system looks set to bring a mix of rain and snow by Friday.
