Massive Reactions to Changing the Name of ‘Charikar’ into ‘Imam Abu Hanifa’
The caretaker government of Afghanistan has changed the ancient name of ‘Charikar’ the capital of Parwan province into ‘Imam Abu Hanifa’ receiving massive reactions.
Abdullah Aminzada, the provincial governor of Parwan province in a press conference announced the name conversion of Charikar city to ‘Imam Abu Habifa’.
Some people have described the act as the beginning of a new ‘Anti-Farsi’ campaign designed to convert the names of major cities by the current Kabul Administration. Charikar is located some 64 kilometers north of Kabul, and it is one of the most populated cities around Kabul. It is a beautiful site where Kabul residents go for entertainment, and its name has ancient roots.
Abdul Latif Pedram, the former representative of the people in the Parliament and founder of the National Congress Party of Afghanistan, described the act, as “Forgery and Anti-Farsi’ policies. He further added that, “more names will be changed.”
Abdul Manan Shewa-e-Sharq, the former deputy minister of information and culture of Afghanistan said in his tweet, that unlike the Taliban Imam Abu Hanifa praised “women and rationalism”.
On the other hand, some pro-Taliban social media activists praised the act and described it as necessary to better understand the founder of the Muslim school of jurisprudence.
