Commentator suggests Spurs star ‘fortunate’ not to be sent off vs Brentford 

Commentator Robyn Cowen said during Tottenham’s Boxing Day draw clash against Brentford that Dejan Kulusevski was lucky to escape without a red card for his foul on Rico Henry. 

Tottenham earned a hard-fought draw at the Brentford Community Stadium, with the game taking a familiar pattern for the Lilywhites, who conceded first before batting back from two goals down to salvage a point.

Antonio Conte admitted after the game that while he was disappointed that his side conceded first again, he was pleased to see the fighting spirit and intensity with which they played in the second half (Football.London).

Spurs might feel hard done by with one particular decision at the start of the second half when Kane seemed to be brought down by Ben Mee inside the box when the striker was looking to get on the end of Ivan Perisic’s cross.

However, Cowen has said that the Lilywhites were actually lucky that Kulusevski was not punished after the Swede appeared to leave his foot in the challenge as Henry fell to the ground in the first half.

She said Amazon Prime’s coverage (26/12/22 from 12:30 onwards): “Well, he’s (Kulusevski) slightly fortunate. You can’t really get away with that in the VAR age.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I thought the decision not to award Spurs a penalty for the foul on Kane was a much bigger howler. I was flabbergasted that VAR did not even invite the referee to have a second look at the incident on the touchline monitor as Mee did not have his eyes on the ball and was only intent on stopping Kane from getting to the cross.
