In a meeting with officials from the state safai karmachari commission, the chairman of the commission said he has reviewed the report on removing 120 railway cleaning workers. The commission condemned the move, and requested more information from the railway department. The commission also instructed all 12 zonal commissioners to provide good quality food to workers, and to cover them under insurance within 10 days. The tahsildars (landowners) of two quarries in Dharwad urged the government to resolve issues related to quarries located on patta land. The stone quarry owners’ association has submitted demands to the government several times, but to no avail. The demands include request for a separate chapter of rules with respect to quarry on patta land, exemption from payment of royalty for patta land, waiving of conditions that mandate quarry owners to produce bank guarantee, instructions on onetime settlement for penalty on royalty withdrawal of arial surveillance and surveys by drones, simplifying the process of providing permission for blasting activity, and withdrawal of the condition that each and every crusher should have a weighbridge.
