Juventus open to offers for Weston McKennie in January
Juventus are reportedly ready to listen to offers for Weston McKennie. Spanish outlet Marca, through several Italian sources, claim that the midfielder has become surplus at the club. McKennie featured fairly regularly for Max Allegri this season. Still, the manager sanctions a January sale.
The United States men’s national team midfielder started nine of the 12 Serie A games that he could. McKennie has also featured regularly in the team’s unsuccessful Champions League debacle as well.
Pogba’s return could hamper McKennie’s playing time
However, French midfielder Adrien Rabiot is Allegri’s first choice at the position. This is particularly true since Paul Pogba has been sidelined for the first part of the season with an injury. Nevertheless, Pogba will soon be returning to the pitch as he recovers from surgery. Assuming the former Manchester United player can stay fit, Juve would have too many players in central midfield.
Marco Canterio, chief editor at Tuttomercato, recently claimed that Allegri prefers to sell McKennie over Rabiot. However, salary demands by the American could hinder a potential move. “Allegri prefers to sell [McKennie] rather than Adrien Rabiot but the American, to the suitors who have approached so far, asks for too high a salary,” Canterio wrote on Twitter.
Despite the salary concerns, there should be plenty of suitors for McKennie. The aforementioned report suggests that a transfer fee for the USMNT star could be in the $20-$25 million range. This is a fairly reasonable fee for a talented international star that is still just 24.
Trio of big clubs reportedly ready to pounce on Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie
Tottenham Hotspur have links with McKennie dating back a few months now. The director of soccer at Spurs, Fabio Paratici, is reportedly an admirer of the midfielder. Paratici also previously worked at Juve for over a decade as well.
Along with Spurs, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are also rumored to be interested in signing McKennie. UMSNT fans will hope that the midfielder can nail down a regular starting spot wherever he goes.
