The East Singhbhum district administration removed a shivling that was allegedly installed on the banks of the Kharkhai River adjacent to the old bridge connecting the two industrial towns of Jamshidpur and Adityapur. Hindu groups protested against the act, while protesting against the shivling removal hindu peeth volunteers and BJP leaders created a ruckus at the site and tried to stop the officials from getting access to the structure. The top officials of the district administration who were present at the site held dialogues with the agitating leaders after which the shivling was removed. Earlier in the day, officials of the Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd. (TSUIS) arrived at the site to carry out the removal in the presence of civil and police administration personnel as soon as they BJP members including district president Gunjan Yadav rushed to the site and started an agitation. The Hindu Peeth convener, Arun Kumar, said the shivling was not installed by them but it was there for ages. He also said since the shivling was anchored on the boundary wall of the Ganesh Temple which is regulated by the United States, some of their members and the devotees offer prayers to it.
