Antonio Conte calls for a ‘nasty’ Tottenham following Man City defeat

Antonio Conte has once again sat down with the media this morning as part of the preparations for Monday’s Premier League match against Fulham.

It was just a matter of hours ago that Tottenham suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester City and despite taking a 2-0 lead on the cusp of half-time through Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal, their second half error-strewn display helped the Premier League champions to turn the game around in the second period.

The Italian has called for his side to be ‘more focused’ and ‘nasty’ as they look to end their poor run of form when they head to Craven Cottage on Monday evening.

Tottenham are now at risk of finishing outside of the Champions League places having played a game more than Newcastle United, who occupy fourth spot and are five points better off.

Conte told Football.London: “No, but I think we are doing progress in my opinion, in my mind in some aspects. In other aspects we have to come back to last season and be a bit more solid, more focused, a bit more nasty,” 

“Yeah, because in my opinion we improved in many aspects because also this season we are scoring many goals, creating many chances. Our organisation to press is much better than last season… last season they [Man City] had 75 per cent possession and created a lot of chances and we were really lucky. At the same time we were really good to stay there and suffer and to win the game.

“This season, yesterday we played a good game and a game a team like Tottenham has to play, face-to-face and open. At the same time we created chances to score, we score two goals but we need to find the same solidity of last season. I think we are in the right direction from my experience.

“In my first season at Inter, we played Borussia Dortmund. We were winning 2-0 and we lost 3-2. We were at the start of the process and I think this game I remember. It was really difficult but then you have to go through this situation to improve and go another level.”

Tottenham need to turn around their season and fast, having only managed to win one of their last five matches and are now at serious risk of losing touch with the top four if they fail to win at Craven Cottage.
