People are only just realising they’ve been making popcorn all wrong – here’s how to get rid of those unpopped kernels
A WOMAN has taken to TikTok to share the right way to make microwave popcorn – and people can’t believe they’ve been missing this vital last step.
Content creator @grincesslera regularly shares lifestyle and fashion content with her 3.5 million followers.
But in a new TikTok video, she shares how to quickly and easily remove those pesky unpopped kernels.
She reveals that while the small opening in the bag is there to stop it from exploding when in the microwave, it can also be used to filter out the hard, brown kernels that are sometimes left at the bottom.
She wrote: “I finally figured out what the slot in the microwave popcorn bag is for…”
During the 11-second video, she is seen removing the popcorn bag from the microwave, before turning it upside down, so the small opening is at the bottom.
While the popcorn stays inside the bag, all the unpopped kernels fall to the bottom and out into a bowl.
Fans loved the reveal, with the video gaining more than 256,000 likes and six million views.
In the comments, the content creator’s followers shared their reactions, with one writing: “I mean, I assumed it was so air could escape and it not explode. But that’s a mighty fine trick.”
Another said: “Noooo!!!!! Of course!!!!”
A third added: “Mind-blowing.”
She’s not the only one educating people online – cleaning expert Laura took to Twitter to share what the three slots in your washing machine drawer are really for.
She said: “Ok. Listen up: There are usually 3 compartments: prewash, detergent, softener.
“Not knowing what is what can make clothes smellier, scratchier and actually not last as long or do what they should.”
“It’s also imperative that the right s*** hits your clothes at the right time.
“Pre-wash will have more surfactants to help remove heavy soiling so will need a lot of rinsing to remove, she needs to enter early doors.
“Softener is designed to linger, so needs only a rinse stage and detergent would never come off & clog fibres if it wasn’t followed by rinses.”
