I tried Kylie and Kendall Jenner’s NSFW pant-less outfit – people said I looked ‘ridiculous’ & it was ‘too revealing’
ONE fashion trend is taking over 2023 runways, and icons Kendall and Kylie Jenner are sporting the sexy sheer style on the street: wearing sheer tights as pants.
As a fellow fashion obsessor, I set out to try the skimpy fad and stunted in my undies to catch people’s reactions – but most said it was “too daring” for them to try.
Kylie arrived early to the no-pants party when she attended Loewe’s spring 2023 show in her “tighty whities.”
The 24-year-old beauty mogul showed up in translucent tights, banded briefs, a matching tank, and a cashmere trench – a seemingly minimalist look, but a hit no less.
“No pants. No problem,” she wrote in her Instagram post.
Two months later, Kendall was caught coming from a photoshoot with FWRD in a spicy look straight from Bottega Veneta’s spring 2023 runway.
She wore sheer stockings, black slingbacks, and a blue crewneck sweater with a white undershirt poking through.
Since the sisters debuted these inside-out outfits, an underwear-as-pants movement on TikTok has grown as tons of creators rushed to style looks similarly.
Naturally, I’ve been intrigued by these freeing fits.
While most style influencers are following Kendall’s dark rendition, Kylie’s was the more obvious choice for me to try.
If I wanted to look like I was only wearing underwear, why not wear the most noticeable pair?
Now, I’d consider myself a major fashion fan and a bit of a style risk-taker. But I’ve never gone this far.
Nevertheless, I grabbed my sheer stockings, white briefs, a tank top, and my only long jacket, which barely covered my bottom.
And, of course, because the rainy day wouldn’t stop Kylie from wearing a pair of black sunglasses, it wouldn’t stop me either.
Coming out of the bathroom stall in Kylie’s outfit, I instantly felt exposed. But an air of confidence washed over me when I put my shades on and looked in the mirror.
It was opposite day – my expressions were shielded while my undergarments were uncovered.
At four feet 11 inches, my ability to feel sexy often gets cut short amongst tall people. In this get-up, I could stand next to anyone and feel it.
However, walking outside, my high spirit simmered as security guards stared and contemplated throwing me out of the building.
And their eyes were locked on me until I was out of sight. It was like I was doing something wrong.
As soon as the cold air hit my bare legs, I experienced immense regret. This half-dressed look isn’t meant for New York City’s frigid January temperatures.
But amidst the gloomy weather, people were more than willing to share their opinion on my pants-less look.
I asked individuals, couples, families, and friends the same few questions:
- Have you heard of the new fashion trend where people replace pants with tights?
- What is your initial reaction to my outfit?
- Would you wear something similar?
- What would you change about the look?
Upon entry into Pret A Manager, the stares I received weren’t promising.
“It’s not fashionable, no,” a blunt man said.
I tried to tell him it had to be because it was on the runways, but he said: “That’s not the majority.”
“I don’t prefer that fashion,” another apprehensive woman agreed.
Yet a young couple sitting by the window had a differing opinion. The woman told me my outfit was “really nice,” and the man said he wouldn’t mind if his girlfriend tried the trend.
Another man told me I looked “delicious,” which honestly didn’t make me feel better about wearing so little in public.
The majority of fashion fans who had heard of the new fad complimented me on my bravery in wearing little to no clothes.
Firm “nos” were given when asked if they would try it themselves.
My no-pants ensemble was “too young,” “too revealing,” and “ridiculous” for them to wear it.
According to one person I interviewed, my fit was “more of a jeans look” – not sure what that means.
An underwear-only opposer admitted that she wouldn’t take her friend seriously if she showed up in a similar outfit.
She said: “I’d check her fever and see if she was feeling alright.”
While some people described the trend as “daring” and “fashion-forward,” a security guard did not want his partner or child to wear anything like it ever.
All agreed lounging in underwear was meant for night-time.
Though the tights-as-pants trend seemed more appealing on others for most, the response wasn’t nearly as brutal as I would have guessed.
I don’t know if people were immune to controversial fashion statements or if they were impressed someone would be brave enough to go out in their knickers.
Regardless, I’d wear it again – but maybe lose the white bottoms to look less like Captain Underpants.
