Report: Details emerge as Spurs expected to abandon pursuit of Pedro Porro
The print edition of A Bola (19/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now ready to give up on their pursuit of Pedro Porro after their latest proposal was turned down by Sporting Lisbon.
Multiple sources (including Fabrizio Romano) have revealed over recent days that Spurs made a player plus cash offer for Porro, which was turned down by Sporting, who maintain that they will only let the right-back leave if his £40m release clause is met.
El Chiringuito TV also reported on Thursday that Tottenham’s offer had been rejected by the Portuguese club but the publication claimed that Antonio Conte’s men are not prepared to give up and are set for a fresh round of talks over the 23-year-old today (Friday).
However, this has been contradicted by A Bola, who state that Tottenham are ready to give up on their efforts to sign Porro.
The report explains that the Lilywhites offered to give up their 50 per cent sell-on clause for Marcus Edwards in order to get a discount on the right-back but Sporting were not willing to accept those terms.
The publication has revealed there have been no new contacts from Tottenham since that proposal was turned down and that the Premier League club are not expected to try again for Porro this window.

I wonder if doubts over Conte’s future at Spurs have had a bearing on Paratici’s and Levy’s willingness to the extra mile to sign Porro. Perhaps the Spurs hierarchy do not want to overpay for the Spaniard since they feel signing another right wing-back might prove wasteful if they part ways with the Italian.
