The Odisha vigilance directorate has hired financial experts to train investigators of the anticorruption wing and the Odisha police to probe cases related to cryptocurrency. The move came in the wake of some recent instances where corrupt public servants invested their black money in digital currency and cyber fraudsters cheated gullible investors by promising them hefty returns through crypto trading. Such cases were difficult to crack for the investigators who had little knowledge on crypto operations. However, technological advancements are enabling corrupt practices through anonymity digital high speed transactions, secretive communications through dark web, and generation of crypto and digital assets. It is necessary for vigilance and police to upgrade their knowledge and competence to deal with the challenge.
