The promoter of the Ajantaoreva group, Rajkot Jaysukh Patel, has filed for anticipatory bail fearing arrest in the Morbi suspension bridge collapse that left 135 people dead on October 30. Oreva Group, which had the contract to operate and maintain the bridge, had subcontracted the repair work to noncompetent firm Devprakash Solutions Patel. Sources say that police are likely to name him the chargesheet that will be filed in a few days. When contacted, investigation officer Pa Jhala said, "You will come to know whether he is Patel an accused or not on the day the chargesheet is filed." Considering him as a person of interest, police will oppose the anticipatory bail when it comes up for hearing in a couple of days. In December last year, the Gujarat High Court issued a notice to the Oreva Group following a petition filed by an Ahmedabad resident who had lost his brother and sister in the tragedys. Sk Vora, the special public prosecutor in this case, told TOI, "Patel has filed an anticipatory bail application with Morbi court, and anybody who fears arrest can file an anticipatory bail plea.
