The BJP and the BJD are in a dispute over who is eligible to receive houses from the Centre's flagship housing scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojanagram. The deadline for submitting objections and suggestions by the public to the draft list of 959,000 beneficiaries ended on Tuesday, with the BJP announcing that it will submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister requesting modifications. Speaking to media, BJP State General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said that three lakh undeserving beneficiaries have made it to the draft list, and that the state government is responsible for ensuring there is no corruption in allocation of the houses. If the state doesn't modify the list within seven days, the BJP will stage demonstrations across all the 314 blocks in the state. Senior BJD MLA and former Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said that the BJP should make the list of the eligible beneficiaries left out and ineligible who made it to the list, and dared the BJP to do so. Mishra said that the objection and suggestion process was meant to ensure eligible beneficiaries get the houses, but that the state has failed to do so.
