A 5-year-old boy in Coimbatore died after consuming insecticide on January 20. The boy, P Dharshith, from Thilagar Street in Seeranaickenpalayam thought it was soft drink and consumed it. Police said the boy's father, R Prakash, 32, is a marketing representative at a private pharmaceuticals company in the city. On Friday night, the boy developed severe pain in his abdomen. His father, upon questioning the boy, found that he had consumed insecticide immediately. Prakash called an ambulance and rushed the boy to the hospital. However, the boy died on Monday. The Coimbatore Police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body was handed over to the boy's family after a postmortem.
