California earthquake – Tremors felt in LA after state is rocked by 4.2 magnitude quake off the coast of Malibu
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake has been reported off the coast of California.
Tremors have been felt across parts of Los Angeles and Anaheim.
Seismologists at the US Geological Survey have said the quake was recorded around 16km south of Malibu Beach.
Its epicenter is around 45km from Los Angeles.
A 3.5 magnitude earthquake was also reported seconds later, according to FOXLA.
And, a 2.8 magnitude aftershock was reported about 20 minutes after the initial quake struck.
Americans have taken to social media to say that they felt the impacts of the quakes.
One resident said: “Did you feel that? I am West Hollywood and it shook the apartment.”
Another commented: “Earthquake? Brief jolt, felt in East LA area.”
And, a third person said: “Was that another aftershock or am I being paranoid?”
Chase the Rapper claimed that the first earthquake scared him, while residents have compared the impact to a “train.”
Californians have said that they felt tremors across Santa Monica.
Residents were woken by the quake in Camarillo and Anaheim, according to NBCLA.
A tsunami warning hasn’t been issued following the earthquake.
LA fire crews have said there are no initial reports of any structural damage or injuries.
The quake comes just weeks after a 6.4 magnitude quake rocked parts of northern California.
At least two people were killed and several were left injured.
Cops said the victims, aged 72 and 83, suffered “medical emergencies” and medics couldn’t reach them.
It left thousands of Americans in cities such as Chico and Ferndale without power.
A magnitude 3.3 earthquake also hit the state’s Bay Area in December.
The quake was recorded 1.5 miles north of Union City, the USGS said.
It came almost a year after a 6.2 magnitude quake rocked the coast of Cape Mendocino.
No injuries were recorded, according to reports at the time.
The San Andreas Fault line spans 750 miles and runs through California.
