Police ‘seal off roads’ close to where Nicola Bulley disappeared

More than three weeks have passed since the 45-year-old went missing (Picture: PA)

‘All roads’ near the river where mum-of-two Nicola Bulley was last seen have been sealed off.

Lancashire Police have closed off the area in what is the latest development in the mysterious case, more than three weeks after the 45-year-old vanished.

A police helicopter has been seen circling above an outcrop of undergrowth in St Michael’s on Wyre.

Meanwhile, at least two divers have been spotted entering a section of the River Wyre earlier today.

A photographer told the Mirror: ‘It all happened so fast. Police have sealed all the roads off. There are police drones and cars everywhere’.

A man and a woman were seen pointing to some shrubbery on the river bank as the search is underway.

It is still unclear why the action has been taken, and why divers are examining the water again.

But it comes after it was revealed the force brought in a top investigator from the National Crime Agency (NCA) to help bring the case to a close.

Nicola was last seen at 9.10am on January 27, taking her usual route with her dog, Willow, alongside the river.

Earlier that morning, she had dropped off her two young daughters at school.

Her phone – still connected to a work call – was found about 20 minutes later on a bench overlooking the riverbank, with her spaniel running around, but Nicola was nowhere to be found.

The main working hypothesis was that she had fallen into the river after dropping her dog’s ball by mistake, and had drowned.

Detectives continue to maintain the stance that no third party is involved in the case.

But friends and family have insisted Nicola is a ‘good swimmer’, adding there was ‘no evidence whatsoever’ to support that theory.
