Ducks expect Troy Terry back, but Adam Henrique could be out ‘a while’

It was a somewhat newsworthy day for the last-place Ducks as they prepared for the third game of their four-game trip, facing the Washington Capitals  on Thursday night.

Versatile forward Adam Henrique will be “out a while,” according to Ducks coach Dallas Eakins, via text message Thursday. Eakins added that they are not sure how long the team’s third-leading scorer will be sidelined.

Henrique, however, is still on the trip and the injury is believed not to be of a long-term nature. He suffered a lower-body injury in the second period of Tuesday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a pileup in the Ducks’ crease.

With the league’s trade deadline March 3, the injury would seem to minimize the chances of Henrique being moved.

In better news, forward Troy Terry was set to return to the lineup, Eakins said. Terry missed seven games after suffering an upper-body injury in Dallas on Feb. 6 and the Ducks won just once when he was out, versus Chicago in overtime on Feb. 7. They were outscored 38-18 in that seven-game stretch.

In other injury news, defenseman John Klingberg, a late scratch in Tuesday’s game, still has a nagging lower-body injury and won’t play against the Capitals. He has improved but not enough to get back in the lineup. Up front, Jayson Megna will be scratched and Brett Leason is in against his former team. The Ducks claimed Leason on waivers from Washington just before the start of the season.

Ducks trade

The Ducks did make a trade Thursday, but one at the minor-league level with Chicago. They acquired left wing Josiah Slavin from the Blackhawks for right wing Hunter Drew.

Slavin, who had 11 points in 51 games with AHL Rockford this season, was assigned to the Ducks’ AHL affiliate in San Diego.  He is the younger brother of Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin.
