Selena Gomez Deactivates TikTok, Announces Social Media Break Following Weeks of Body Shaming & Feud Rumors

Selena Gomez is taking a break from social media and deactivated her TikTok.

The 30-year-old “Kill Em With Kindness” pop star hopped online to let fans know that she was planning on stepping back for a bit following weeks of reports about her relationship with Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber and body shaming.

She addressed how she’s feeling and her reasoning for leaving social media while live on TikTok.

“I’m so blessed. I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world. And I just couldn’t be happier. I’m good. I love who I am, I don’t care. I’m big, I’m not. I don’t care. I love who I am,” Selena was caught saying in a clip from her TikTok live on Thursday (February 23).

“I’m gonna be taking a second from social media because this is a little silly,” she continued. “And I’m 30. I’m too old for this.”

The Only Murders in the Building actress responded to body shaming content last week, explaining how her medication for Lupus affects her weight. She previously laughed off hateful comments she received after attending the 2023 Golden Globes.

Earlier on Thursday, Selena generated headlines after she reacted to posts that were critical of Kylie and Hailey. In the comments section for one, she rushed to the defense of Taylor Swift.

She’s also revealed her “girl crush,” and it was a surprising choice based on their history.

This will not be the first time Selena has stepped back from social media. She returned to Instagram earlier this year after handing off control of it to her management.

At the time of publishing, Selena‘s TikTok is inactive. However, her Instagram account is still up. It remains to be seen if she’ll deactivate any other channels.
