Afghan Leaders Among Top Gift Givers to US President Biden in 2021
According to federal documents disclosed on Thursday, the deposed Afghan leaders were among the top gift-givers to President Joseph Biden and his family in 2021.
The former Afghan president Mohammed Ashraf Ghani and his wife gave the US president and first lady Jill Biden silk carpets in June 2021 that were reportedly worth $28,800. Meanwhile, defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was given a carpet worth $2,650 in March from Ghani.
In another instance, the document revealed that Ghani and his wife, Rula, gifted Joe Biden and Jill Biden two silk rugs, one valued at $19,200 and the other at $ 9600. This was after Biden had announced the order to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan in April.
The report also said that Abdullah Abdullah, former Chief Executive officer for Afghanistan, gave President Biden a jeweller box made of brass and lapis lazuli in June 2021 was thought to be worth approximately $1,150.
After Russia’s president, Ghani, the deposed president of Afghanistan and his wife, Rula Ghani, were the top gift giver to President Joe Biden and his family.
Earlier this month, an Italian TGI News Network also revealed an investigative report showing that Qatar had paid Ashraf Ghani, Marshal Dostum, and Atta Mohammad Noor $110, $51, and $61 Million, respectively, not to fight against Taliban fighters.
Meanwhile, Ghani and his team fled Afghanistan in August 2021 after withdrew of the US forces from Afghanistan and the Taliban de facto government took control of the country.
