#LAKings Rapid Review: Notes and Highlights from Kings 3-2 Victory Over Islanders (MayorsManor
Friday night was another memorable game in the New York tri-state area for veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick. While making 16-of-18 saves against the Islanders, the 37-year-old earned his third straight victory and 370th of his illustrious career. That moved him ahead of Tom Barrasso and into sole possession of third place for the most wins by an American born goalie. He now sits just four wins shy of tying John Vanbiesbrouck for second.
It was a much-needed two points from a Kings team that had trouble holding leads in a pair of games to open their current five-game trek. Not this time around, though… well, sort of.
Despite outshooting New York 12-5 in the first period, LA had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. however, things changed in the second frame when Phil Danault, Arthur Kaliyev, and Gabe Vilardi gave the Kings a 3-0 lead. A late power play goal from Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson cut it to 3-1 after 40 minutes.
In the final period of regulation, Adam Pelech put New York within one goal of tying it with about five minutes to go in the third. LA’s defense brushed aside the home town push and skated away with a 3-2 victory.
Three Stats of The Game:
– Down in Ontario, defenseman Jordan Spence scored on his 21st birthday Friday evening. Phillip Danault equalled that feat by scoring in New York on his 30th birthday. It marked the second time this season a Kings player notched a goal on their birthday, as Carl Grundstrom also did it back on Dec. 1, 2021 vs. ARI.
— In addition to the notes on Quick above, he also moved into 19th place overall on the NHLs all-time wins list, moving ahead of Barrasso and Nashville’s Pekka Rinne.
–Vilardi led all Kings skaters with four shots on goal, while Mikey Anderson topped all LA players with 27:05 of ice time.
