Leeds United Chat • Re: Georginio Rutter
He looks a quality player and someone who should offer a great deal in the long run. The question is what he brings this season, in another relegation scrap.Had moments Rutter.
Some decent at times holdup play
Little runs
But questions do need to be asked about this deal imo.
Every single German media source said 3 things
1) Talented but far from ready to be a regular in a top league
2) End product needs a lot of work, pressing is brilliant and can run with the ball but goals and match winning moments are severely lacking
3) Massively overpriced at £35mil.
Why was Orta allowed to make a signing in January (a month where by his own admission you only make signings if you have an urgent need) that isnt ready, massively over priced, and has a poor end product in a team full of them?
I like the look of Rutter for say £15mil as a backup who we slowly integrate into the team.
I cant fathom why we paid so much for him and are willing to rely on him though
To much expectation on such young shoulders (same as Gnonto)
Remember that we did this deal and sent Gelhardt out on loan. As it is, I feel like Gelhardt offers as much if not more (based on last season's run in) than Rutter does.
I'm all for investing in youth and promising talent in the summer time. But we knew what we were looking at in January. I wouldn't be paying a record fee for a prospect at that time. We needed knowns rather than unknowns. I really do have high hopes for Rutter. But honestly, today, I'd have rather had Joffy around and have spread that 30 million around 2 or 3 solid squad players.
