Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United: Three talking points as Red Devils suffer their worst-ever Premier League defeat
Manchester United were torn apart by Liverpool at Anfield as the Reds struck seven goals past the visitors in the Premier League today.
Liverpool opened the deadlock just before half-time through Cody Gakpo.
The game looked even at the break, but what transpired in the second half was not envisioned by anyone.
Jurgen Klopp’s men scored six more goals as Man United were given an embarrassing thumping.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Gakpo each scored a brace, with Firmino netting the seventh goal of the game.
Liverpool moved up to fifth spot in the league and are just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.
Man United remain in third spot, nine points behind Manchester City. Here is what we made of the game.

This was a reality check for United. They were humiliated by Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford earlier this season, but this was worse.
Bruno Fernandes and Antony started on the wings but they were overrun by Liverpool’s full-backs.
In-form Marcus Rashford had to wait for eight minutes to have his first significant touch of the ball.
Worryingly, United’s players gave up after the second goal. Erik ten Hag looked bereft of ideas on the sidelines and his team threw the towel in.
Varane and Martinez floored
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been applauded for their robust partnership at the back
However, they were woeful today. Varane allowed Gakpo to cut inside and he curved his strike past David de Gea to open the floodgates.
Martinez lost his footing several times with Mohamed Salah turning and twisting the Argentine.
He was rightly substituted by Ten Hag in the second half but the game was already beyond United.
League title charge ends
There has been a lot of noise around Man United pushing for the Premier League title.
Their recent run of form led people to believe they had an outside chance of winning the league if Arsenal and Manchester City slipped.
That discussion ends today. United are not good enough to battle for the title.
If Ten Hag continues to building and is supported this summer, maybe the Red Devils can fight for the Premier League crown.
However, it is not possible this year. A top-four finish is the limit of what they can achieve.
