UCLA gets perfect 10 by Jordan Chiles in gymnastics win
LOS ANGELES — Jordan Chiles scored her second perfect 10.0 of the season on Sunday afternoon as No. 5 UCLA gymnastics beat Stanford 198.175-196.825 at Pauley Pavilion.
The perfect score was Chiles’ first of the season in uneven bars and second overall after she reached 10.0 on floor exercise in early February. She also recorded a career-high score with her 9.975 on balance beam.
Chiles won the all-around with a 39.875 and Selena Harris was back in the all-around rotation once again after missing at least one event last week. Harris came in second with a 39.675.
The Bruins (7-4-2 overall, 4-1-2 in Pac-12) neared a season-high score in vault, their first event of the day, powered by Chae Campbell’s first-place 9.950.
They then reached a season-high score in uneven bars in the next rotation at 49.725. In addition to Chiles’ 10.0, four other gymnasts’ scores surpassed 9.900, with Kalyany Steele setting a season high and Ana Padurariu setting a career high.
Chiles and Harris took first and second on balance beam and UCLA scored 49.675 as a team in floor exercise in the final event, which has been the centerpiece for the Bruins all season. Chiles won the event with a 9.975 and Emma Malabuyo and Chae Campbell tied for second at 9.950.
Alumni lined the floor for the final event as part of the day’s Alumni Meet and Title IX Celebration, the third themed meet of the year after the Equity Meet and Blue Out earlier this season.
More to come.
UCLA concludes its schedule of dual meets next week when it hosts Iowa State for the Senior Meet.
