Afghanistan Ready to Begin TAPI Pipeline Project: Ministry
Afghanistan is ready to begin actual work on the TAPI pipeline project, according to the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP).
The main hurdles to implementing this initiative were those that already exist in the TAPI member countries, according to Homayoun Afghan, a spokesperson for the MOMP.
“The relevant countries, for example, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and India, might have technical and legal problems, so this project has been delayed. We have completed all of the issues,” said Afghan, ToloNews quoted.
The growing demand for energy power and economic development in South Asian countries, especially in India as the world’s second-largest populous country, has created an urgency for developing great trans-regional projects.
These projects connect Central Asian rich energy countries to South Asian energy consumer countries, India and Pakistan. This great inter-regional project includes the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI).
In Turkmenistan, the TAPI- gas pipeline was inaugurated in Ashgabat on December 13, 2015. It is a project of about $ 6.7 Billion and has a length of 1829 km.
However, due to the lack of consensus, mainly between India and Pakistan, the security situation in the country may consider other hurdles to the implementation of the projects.
