Bristol firefighter suffers minor burn battling house fire
A Bristol firefighter was injured early Thursday battling a house fire.
Bristol Fire Chief Richard Hart said the injured firefighter suffered a burn to his neck after an ember fell from a ceiling while fire crews were at a blaze reported around 3:29 a.m. at a home at 55 Lacava Road. The chief described the injury as minor and said he expects the firefighter — who was evaluated by medics at the scene — will be able to return to duty for his next scheduled shift.
No other injuries were reported.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they made entry and found heavy fire on the first floor and in the basement. Once the flames spread to the attic, the roof collapsed, the chief said. At this point, all crews were directed out of the structure.
The home was vacant at the time the fire broke out, as it has been undergoing some renovations, Hart said.
He said the home is expected to be a total loss.
The Bristol Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
