Millions of iPhones are getting huge free perk this month – Apple reveals surprise upgrade
MILLIONS of iPhone owners will be able to access a huge perk later this month.
If you’re an Apple Music subscriber, the service is getting a major expansion – in the form of brand new app.
While a typical Apple Music subscription costs $10.99 / £10.99 a month, it’s being massively expanded to include a totally new service.
The new Apple Music Classical is a free add-on, so you won’t need to pay any extra subscription fees beyond your regular membership.
It’s a new standalone app that launches on March 28, 2023.
The app is designed specifically for classical music, and features five million tracks.
Apple says the app is “the world’s largest classical music catalogue”.
It promises the highest audio quality of up to 192kHz/24-bit Hi-Res lossless sound – with thousands of recordings available in 3D ‘Spatial Audio’.
According to Apple, the app contains a mix of old masterpieces and new releases, as well as thousands of exclusive albums.
You can search by composer, work, conductor and catalogue number.
And you check out composer biographies and work descriptions to find out who created the track – and what it actually means.
Apple has also commissioned a series of exclusive digital portraits depicting some of the world’s greatest composers.
So you can stare deeply into the eyes of Beethoven, Chopin or Bach while you listen to their world-famous works.
You can bag Apple Music Classical as a free add-on to Apple Music if you have an Individual, Student, Family or Apple One subscription.
However it’s not included if you only have the Apple Music Voice Plan.
It’s available in all countries where Apple Music is available (except for China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan), and will work on any iPhone running iOS 15.4 or later.
Apple says it’s all planning to release the app for Android phone owners too, and says it’s “coming soon”.
The Apple Music launched back in June 2015 as a rival to Spotify.
It’s since become one of the most popular music streaming apps in the world, with an estimated 78million subscribers in November 2021.
The service offers up over 100million songs to stream on demand, as well as for offline listening.
Apple’s cheapest plan starts at $4.99 for voice control only, rising to $16.99 for a full family plan.
The Apple Music Classical app is available to pre-order right now, and will appear on your phone at the end of the month.
