A GUEST on The Repair Shop broke down in tears as she revealed the heartbreaking story behind her prized box.
The BBC programme sees a workshop full of craftspeople attempt to fix or restore their guests’ most treasured items.
During the latest episode viewers were introduced to sisters Rose and Linda.
They walked into the repair shop carrying what appeared to be a battered box – but viewers soon learned it carried huge sentimental value.
Rose revealed that the box belonged to her late husband Jim, who sadly died 10 years ago.
The widow went on to reveal how he fled Germany just before the start of World War II.
He travelled to the UK through Kindertransport – which was an organised rescue effort to rescue Jewish children from Nazi-controlled territories.
Tragically Jim’s family perished in a concentration camp and Rose revealed the precious box contained belongings of his family.
Julie Thachell was touched by the story and got to work to try her best to restore the sentimental box.
When Rose returned to the repair shop she was left in floods of tears as Julie showed off the successful restoration work.
“It’s gorgeous. I’ve never seen it like that. Oh. I can’t thank you enough,” said Rose.
She continued as she touched the box: “It’s Jim. Yes. While I’ve got that I’ve always got Jim.”
Julie, who was delighted with Rose’s reaction, said: “I have to say, it was not only a privilege and pleasure to work on this, considering the immense story behind it, but also, for me to work on such a beautiful piece as this is the icing on the cake.”
The Repair Shop airs on BBC One.
